Anatoly Kuznetsov: beyond professionalism

The fourth surprise is the film "Live in your own way", the role of Vasily Balyshev. It's not enough to say about the actor here that he lives another person's life on the screen — he lives this life more fully and deeply than it is written in the script. The image of Balyshev performed by Kuznetsov is an accurate and in—depth study of a certain social type, a character formed in the past and not always fitting into our current life. The actor does not "personify" anything, he just shows his character as he is, and, nevertheless, expresses a real phenomenon.

Balyshev Kuznetsova is a strong and weak person at the same time, woven from qualities that seem to be mutually exclusive. But looking into his character, you suddenly see with your own eyes the usually invisible thread that connects our spirituality and cultural level with a process that at first glance seems far from everyday life and family troubles, such as the scientific and technological revolution, the spirit of which permeates our entire lives today.

Surprise fifth, sixth, and so on...

In 1978, Anatoly Kuznetsov starred in five films. And at least three of them again make you marvel at the breadth of his creative range, the wealth of untapped possibilities.

Gogol's comedy "The Inspector General" is Leonid Gaidai's film "Incognito from St. Petersburg", the role of Judge Lyapkin-Tyapkin. The role is small, but the actor has his own star moment in it — the scene of handing a bribe to Khlestakov. One long close-up: a smile, clearly, changing its meaning on the viewer's heads. At first, she was ingratiating, pathetic, insecure, scared—what if she wouldn't take it, what if she refused? — potam is cunning, understanding and happy with this contract that has arisen and, finally, filled with joyful relief. One smile is not enough! And how incredibly much...

The film directed by Ilya Fraz "A Yoke for a Marquis" is the role of the father of the main character, the boy Radish. A former jockey, an expert on horses, and now just a drunk. At the beginning of the film, there are no Crutches on the screen, he is serving 15 days for a riot at the racetrack, everyone is just talking about him. And here he finally appears: an exotic figure in breeches, a jockey cap, not without chic, in a frayed jacket, which he wears with some pathetic elegance. He walks, out of professional habit, putting his socks slightly to the side, under the protection of a policeman, but this is not the escort and the escorted, but the hero of the day and the person accompanying him. A bit of a poseur, a drunken philosopher, a rather harmless, albeit unpleasant personality. But this is only at first glance, a superficial glance.

The authors of the film and the actor are not interested in the origins of the Kostyri tragedy, but in how it affects the fate of his son. Kuznetsov doesn't just expose Crutcher, he hates him. The line of character here is graphically clear — from weakness, bragging, fawning over his son, through Crutcher's small and large meannesses, to an almost tragic final scene where his character is not just unsympathetic, but disgusting.

And in the film "The Right of the First Signature", a modern, elegant, slightly ironic leader of the new formation will appear on the screen. There are signs of our life today in his words and manner of behavior. He thinks big and boldly, he is used to taking responsibility and is not afraid of it, he is intelligent and democratic...

The words skill and professionalism come to mind first of all when you think about Anatoly Kuznetsov's work.

And yet the world he created on the screen stretches far beyond even the highest level of professionalism. This world is diverse and multifaceted, it accommodates the Russian national character in a variety of manifestations. It is populated by living people inspired by the talent of a genuine artist.
